Jodie Xuehong

“To cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.” - Hippocrates

Jodie was born into a family whose practice of traditional Chinese medicine spans over five generations. In the opinion of her mother, the knowledge and skill of applying acupuncture and herbs to treat patients is their family inheritance. Jodie has honored her lineage by devoting the past twenty years of her life to her practice.

In 1989 Jodie enrolled in Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the first four famous traditional Chinese medicine universities in China.

After five years of studying at this esteemed institution in Chengdu, Jodie learned that the healthy body of a human being has a harmonious and stable internal environment and that the destruction of this dynamic balance causes disease. She also learned to use natural therapies such as herbs, acupuncture and diet therapy to maintain and restore the body’s yin and yang for the effective treatment of disease.

After rigorous clinical training during Jodie’s internship at the university’s affiliated hospital, she mastered the basic treatment skills of both traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine.

Her most memorable experience as an intern, was the treatment for pneumonia in a small child, who, after undergoing a series of antibiotic treatments was thought to have been cured. From a clinical perspective, the x-ray exam showed that the child’s lung inflammation had completely disappeared. However, after almost six months, the child still continued to suffer with a chronic cough. Jodie decided to use Chinese herbs to treat him. The cough immediately dissipated after a course of Chinese herbal treatment drinking twice daily herbal tea. This experience reaffirmed for Jodie the importance in following in her ancestors footsteps in the pursuit of healing people.

After obtaining her Bachelor Degree of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jodie continued to study Literature of traditional Chinese medicine to analyze the famous ancient practitioners' theories and experiences for clinical reference as traditional Chinese medicine is an experience-based medicine.

Building on her extensive clinical experience, Jodie developed a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine. Being deeply immersed in clinical and theoretical applications, Jodie was able to facilitate patients’ health from an insightful and well-rounded perspective.

In order to deepen her level of acupuncture skill, Jodie started studying for a Doctorate in philosophy and furthered her study by another decade in research of traditional Chinese medicine.

Upon obtaining her Ph.D Degree, she also conducted research on the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion regulating the biological rhythm disorder of cancer patients. During this time, she also participated in a nationally renowned 500 patient case study on the effects of acupuncture to treat infertility as well as the intensive study of menstrual disorders and the treatment of women using IUD as birth control.

In order to experience a quieter pace in life, Jodie relocated to Canada where she looks forward to sharing her skills and expertise in alleviating pain and facilitating happiness within her patients. She loves the beauty and tranquility of Victoria which she looks forward to calling her second home for this next phase of her life.
